No more pictures.... for now : (

Hi all,

I was just notified that we are no longer allowed to post pics of students without written permission, even if the photo consent form was signed in the office. (Which all of ours were). My goal will be to send a note home, with parent permission about posting pictures but for now, I had to take down all of the photos that were up and will not be able to post any new ones. :(

Such a bummer, since the pics make the blog so much more visually appealing, but also understandable.

Where did February go?? :)

Buenos dias B-4 Blog Readers!

I can't believe how quick time has flown since we have been back from break! The kids and I have been keeping quite busy in the classroom.

We're just finishing publishing our expositive books and the kids will be presenting them to one another next week. I have been so proud of each of the kids during this project... they really are becoming independent in their writing and there have been times when I can just sit back and watch two students working together to tweak their writing and make it sound better.

We're also finishing up our Water unit study! Coming up next is Salem History and the Willamette Valley. I am excited to teach this unit... I can actually still remember learning about it when I myself was a 3rd grader at Chapman Hill. We're hoping to be able to visit Champoeg park for a field trip... stay tuned for details.

(A special thanks to Luwanna Comstock and her blogging expertise! ; ) The backgrounds wouldn't be possible without her.)

Here we come 2009!

Welcome back! I hope you all had a very refreshing (and extra extra long) break! B4 has come back hitting the ground running... here are some updates!

*Today we went on our first field trip! Your third grader had a very busy fun-filled day seeing the FLAT STANLEY musical at the Elsinore and visiting our Salem Public Library downtown. We'd recently read Flat Stanley in Spanish and done our own Reader's Theatres so the kids were very excited to see the two come together in a big professional production!

*Our classroom was featured on the front page of the Statesman Journal on MLK day. Quite an excited event and honor... especially being right next to a photo to our new President, Barack Obama! Here is a link to read more-

*We've started a new Science unit on Water!! Be looking forward to those fun "investigative" homework activities that I know you all love! ; )

*We're still working hard on Multiplication. I'm asking that the students memorize their times tables for the following numbers: 0, 1, 2, 3, 5, 9, and 10 as well as they understand the theory behind it. Please help me by especially focusing on these multiples when working with your child at home! Thank you so much!!

*Thank you all for sending materials with your child for our classroom "wish list"!!! Such a big help for our classroom community since we share all materials.

On one other note, I'm having digital camera technical difficulties. (It spent the night in the ice one night during our big winter storm and now calls the shots on when it wants to work and not) I will try to get some pictures up soon!

Happy Holidays! Happy Snow Days!

Hola todos!

Wow... Can we believe it? Oregon weather never fails to surprise me... On one hand, I was very disappointed to not have that last week of school with the kids as we had much planned and lots of ongoing projects to be finishing. On the other, what a beautiful experience it has been to wake up each morning and see beautiful white covering the ground!! I hope your kiddos are playing their hearts out in the snow and rejuvenating during the break. I know I am and can't wait to get back in the 3rd grade groove once again.

Special note: So far we will officially be making up 3 of the snow days at the end of the year. The rest are yet to be determined.

Again, enjoy this special Holiday time with your loved ones... I'm going to try to brave the weather today and get into the classroom to start preparing for when we get back! Looking forward to what 2009 has to bring!

The most wonderful time of the year!

This week our class has been busily preparing and practicing for our Reader's Theatre (Obra de teatro) plays that will be happening next week! Be on the lookout for your personal invitation to attend! We will be doing 5 plays total and each child will be in one of the plays. Its exciting to see the students working in cooperative groups and working on their expression and fluency through the art of acting!!

Today we mailed letters that we wrote to our dear friend Daniel Molina who moved to Floridia in October. His birthday is Friday and thank you for sending stamps with your child and walking with us to help this happen!!!

Next week is our last week before winter break. Stay warm and enjoy the time with your ninos!

It's time to try out the pictures!

Photos 1 and 2: We had a class election in honor of election week. Kids held a primary on the book they wanted to read aloud and then campaigned for the final two candidates. Shown are Tono and Jaden campaigning and Nadia casting her vote!
Photos 3-5: Our class had a big afternoon celebration for Dia de los muertos. We enjoyed making papel picado, mascaras y tomando chocolate caliente con pan de muerto! Mmmmmm muy rico!
Photos 6-7: Representative Cameron came to our classroom to talk to us more about being a citizen and the voting process. He even sang the Friday song and Voting Boogaloo with us!
Photos 8-9: Cristina Garcia una autora cubana-americana nos visito y leyo un poquito de su libro! Jaden and Simon even got to read along with her! She signed two of her books that now belong to our class library!

The first entry! Let's see how this works...

Greetings Families!

I'm very excited to announce that I will be starting a B4 Classroom blog! This is where you can come to get updates about what's been happening in our classroom, find out about upcoming events, and even catch a glance of some photos of our work in progress. I will do my best to post at least once a week.

I'm very excited about this opportunity for communicating with YOU! Technology just keeps getting better and better, doesn't it?

Happy Reading!
